Firefighters Get Trees To Needy Kids
Posted On: Dec 04, 2014

The bell ringing on the old 1929 American LaFrance fire truck sang songs of the spirit of the season and spread good cheer over Lawton Sunday afternoon.

Members of the Lawton Fire Department, including Sparky the Fire Dog, loaded up more than a dozen excess Christmas trees and trimmings onto the truck for transport to community children's shelters to offer some much-needed cheer for the upcoming holidays.

The Lawton Firefighter's Association and Christmas for Kids connected with Belle Camp, a supervisor at Walmart, 6301 Quanah Parker Trailway, to make some Christmas magic happen, according to James Carroll, a Lawton firefighter and project coordinator.

"We would love to make this a tradition and start doing this every year from now on so we would like help with the future projects," Carroll said. "This is our first year to do this."

Carroll credited Camp for getting the ball rolling.
